Cabo Verde’s run in the 2026 World Cup was like no other. In their first game against Spain, 40-year-old goalkeeper Vozinha managed to keep a clean sheet. Even as Spain went on to win the tournament, Cabo Verde remained the only country they did not defeat throughout the World Cup, with a final score of 0-0 in that opening game.
So many moments from this World Cup have captured my attention, with Vozinha’s incredible jumps to the sky being only the first. I made this painting to celebrate the resilience and determination of Cabo Verde in their first ever World Cup appearance.
